Well, it is that time of the year again where Sydney Institute library staff get together to do a little learning themselves. So……
We are almost at the end of another year and the lead up to end of year assessments and assignments has begun. Some of us prefer to study quietly while others while others prefer to be in slightly less quieter spaces. At Ultimo TAFE library we endeavour to provide a variety of spaces for you to study. Level 2 is designed to be a quiet study area where you can study at individual study carrels you can use the centre space where there are larger tables.
We also have study rooms that you can book if you are working on say… a group presentation and you require a space where you can practice your presentation. You can access our new screens which enable you to plug in your laptop and view data on the larger screen.
Level 1 has a more relaxed atmosphere. It is a more vibrant environment where you can chat amongst your friends and study buddies. We ask though that you respect others around you so as to make visiting the library a more pleasant experience for everyone. We also have bean bag chairs, booths and study carrels (with PC access) as well as standard tables for you to use. You may not get any study or reading done if seated or lying down in one of our many fabulous bean bag chairs ZZZZZzzzzz
Ground floor is a whole floor dedicated to computer access. We ask that you keep noise here to a minimum as fellow students particularly at this time of year are working on final assessments

Here are a sample of new books that have recently arrived at Ultimo TAFE Library. This bundle of new books covers event management, architecture and design, law, youth work and electrical principles. The books will be on display on the second floor of the library so feel free to borrow one or several. Remember to bring your TAFE card though.

Remembrance Day Ceremony
10.45am, Friday 11/11/11 @ Ultimo College.
All students and staff are invited to attend this annual commemoration of war dead and ex-service personnel.
Wreaths will be laid by members of the official party on behalf of students and staff during this brief but reflective and very special event on the College calendar.
Light refreshments will be provided afterwards by the Student Association, in room DG 60.
Lest we forget
Our first ever Halloween event was a great success. Staff and students greatly enjoyed the entertainment on offer and the prizes. Here are a few images of the days events for you to enjoy

Come on in to Ultimo TAFE library and help celebrate Halloween with us.
Halloween events will start from 12 pm on the 31st of October 2011. Ultimo TAFE library and the Student Association have joined forces to provide an event for you to enjoy. Plenty of activities such as dress ups, a bbq and computer games to take part in.
Staff are even going to get in on the act, so don’t be surprised if Dracula, Little Red Riding Hood or Morticia from the Addams family make an appearance
At Ultimo TAFE library, we have a wide range of computer text books. Some books come with CD Rom’s for an interactive learning that will guide you along the way. These books cover topics in Computer & Digital basics, Hardware, Software, Operating Systems,File management, LANS & WLAN’S. We also have text books on Digital media, Databases, Web & Email and Programming.
Other subject areas that we have received new material in includes religion, travel and cookery. They will be on display on level 2 of the library. Just remember to bring your TAFE card and items to the desk on Level 1

Here are some snapshots from the Ultimo TAFE Careers day that was held on the 15th of September. This was an opportunity for Ultimo TAFE to showcase the various career paths that are available to current and prospective students of the campus.
The vehicle painting and floristry sections showcased some amazing displays of student work. The hospitality students catered to the hungry masses and the student musicians provided some good music to listen to.
There was music, food and a clothing store as well as a wonderful array of staff who were keen to show case the variety of courses available to study at the campus.
Ps. to the chef who cooked the scotch fillet burgers. Mine was delicious
Ultimo Library English Reading Club is on tomorrow at 2.40pm
in the Library, see you there! This is a great way to brush up on your English reading skills.
Everyone is welcome. Snacks will be provided.
