It will be quite a hectic period but there are enrolment staff available to help you with any enrolment queries you may have. Library staff will also be on hand to help you with any library related questions you may have i.e. how do I register my card, print etc and are also available to give you a quick guided tour of the library to help you familiarise yourself with the library and its resources.

 Well…  we are on the other side of the holiday break, hopefully you are all rested and have had a lovely time in the process. The library is now open from 9-5 Monday to Friday only. Regular hours will recommence on the 6th of February 2012.

Please come in and make full use of our services, facilities, books and databases etc.  If you have any questions relating the library ie How do I use the catalogue, photocopier?  Where do I find information on …..? come and speak to the staff located on the ground floor and level 1 (level 2 from the 6th of February). Why not explore our Twitter and Facebook pages in order to keep up to date with the happenings of the library this year.

The eventual winner was Kim Scott with That Deadman Dance. On the 22nd of June 2011 it was announced that he had won the award for the second time. He was the first ever indigenous author to win the Miles Franklin Award. In the year 2000 he shared the prize for his first novel, Benang along with Thea Astley’s work Drylands.

“That Deadman Dance is a story of the encounters between the Noongar people in south-west Australia, the early settlers and visiting American whalers. Using the central figure of Bobby Wabalanginy, who adapts a military drill he has observed to create the deadman dance that becomes a symbol of cross-cultural borrowings, it follows the friendly relations between the indigenous population and the British that eventually give way to something darker.” Retrieved from SMH online June 23, 2011
