December 22nd, 2009 by swilson in Article, Training

Service Skills Australia has released the second and third reports from The New Deal project. The New Deal is a series of research and scoping activities undertaken by Service Skills Australia this year in response to a range of issues in the implementation of training packages. The project sought to investigate ways in which the industry skills council can improve the quality and effectiveness of the Australian vocational education and training system.
Project 2: Workforce Development for Trainers and Assessors was aimed at the improvement of the vocational education and training (VET) practitioner workforce for the service industries. The final product was a workforce development strategy for service industries VET practitioners and suggestions for evaluating that strategy. The research shows that there is a will for improvement of the VET workforce and a clear sense that VET practitioners for the service industries need to be very strongly engaged with industry and also focused on developing their teaching and training skills.
Project 3: ISC Tick on Products and Services was a scoping project about the introduction of a process which identified quality providers of training and products to the service industries. The report identifies and recommends a broad ‘ISC Tick’ framework that consists of three common areas amongst the sectors where industry recognition may improve quality outcomes.
- RTO: Tick on facilities and resources where training and assessment occurs
- Trainer: Tick on the skills, qualifications and industry expertise
- Learning Resources: Alignment with training package outcomes and industry expectations.
The reports are available on the Service Skills Australia website
