VELG national conference profiles the future of VET
July 22nd, 2009 by swilson in Training

‘Successfully maintaining training and assessment currency in vocational education’ is the theme of this year’s VELG national conference, to be held on 13-14 August at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The conference will feature more than 40 one-hour elective sessions aimed at ensuring registered training organisation (RTO) managers, trainers and assessors are up to speed on the latest in training and assessment.
The AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) Essential Standards for Registration states that all vocational education and training (VET) trainers and assessors must continue to develop their training and assessment competencies, to ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to continuously improve the services they provide.
The conference program has been specifically designed to incorporate both plenary sessions and a broad range of elective sessions to enable delegates to select topics that will assist them most in maintaining the currency of their training and assessment skills.
The conference is supported by the national training system’s e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework), where the Framework’s ‘E-learning in Action’ session will outline how e-learning is innovatively meeting the training needs of modern day businesses.
This session will explore the ways in which RTOs can better engage with industry to provide e-learning solutions, and will demonstrate two of the tools – the QTImPlayer and camera glasses – that are being used by industry to fast-track apprenticeships, traineeships and recognition processes.
The Framework is also co-presenting a session, ‘LORN: Accessing Quality Training Resources’, with TVET Australia. This session will demonstrate how to use the portal to source, download and incorporate digital learning objects into teaching and learning activities.
Delegates will receive a Statement of Attendance and a copy of all available PowerPoint presentations on CD-ROM.
