Issue no.4 June 2009 From VETAB eNews- published by the NSW Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board
State Training Services has developed a web based Course Finder to support the NSW Green Skills Strategy. The Course Finder is designed to increase the take-up of green training by providing clear, targeted and up-to-date information about green courses. It will be promoted directly to industry and is a new marketing avenue for training organisations that offer courses in the emerging field of green skills.
The Green Skills Course Finder is a database with three entry points:
- VETAB accredited training organisations can enter courses that foster ‘green skills’, practical job skills together with an understanding of their environmental impact. Green skills help employees to protect or improve the environment in the context of their work. Examples include waste and water management, measuring and reducing energy use, advising customers on energy efficiency of products, installation of green technologies like solar hot water systems.
- State Training Services check the entries and publish approved courses. To be published on the Green Skills Course Finder site, courses must be delivered in NSW, map to NTIS registered qualifications or courses, and have explicit and significant content which will lead to improved environmental outcomes.
- Employers and individual learners use the site to explore green training options. Course information can be filtered by keyword, region, industry, occupation, training organisation or course title. A details page for each course further describes the content and includes the training organisation’s phone number for direct enquiries.
How it works:
1. Go to http://coursefinder.greenskills.nsw.gov.au/ and select Trainer registration to submit your training organisation. Once your application has been approved you receive an email with your username and password (this takes up to two working days).

2. Log in with your username and password. This takes you directly to the Add a course screen. Follow the instructions on the right and register one course at a time. Green skills, activities and knowledge must be a significant part of the course content.Typical examples are- measuring environmental impact
- designing and applying processes that save energy, water or waste
- using environmental technology and delivering environmental services
- planning and managing processes and infrastructure for better environmental outcomes
- promoting environmentally responsible behaviour among customers and colleagues.
Once your entry has been approved the course will be published on the site and you receive a confirmation email (this takes up to two working days)

3. Your approved course will be now be listed on the public search screen. Visitors with an interest in your course can use the Details function to find out more.

4. The details page guides potential students directly to your training organisation.

It is recommended that you update your entries regularly. You will generate better enquiries from potential students when all course information is correct and current. Courses will be automatically suspended from public view 8 months after their latest update.
5. You can also add your logo to the details page through the Contact details link. Please follow the instructions carefully when preparing your logo for uploading.

Publication on the Green Skills Course Finder is a free service for training organisations delivering green training in NSW. State Training Services (as part of the NSW Department of Education and Training) publishes this site for information only and do not recommend or endorse specific training organisations or courses.
The Green Skills Course Finder helps the providers of green training to reach their market place and attract potential students. It is an integral part of Green Skills NSW, a government program implemented by the NSW Department of Education and Training in partnership with the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change.
Green Skills NSW supports green jobs by increasing the availability, quality and take-up of green training.
