Literacy Week activities

September 4th, 2011 Posted by okaras in display, events, library facilities, library resources | Post a Comment »

The Library hosted two National Literacy and Numeracy Week Days on Wednesday 31 August and Thursday 1 September. Activities included a Sustainability Quiz based on a PowerPoint presentation developed for the event, played on our wide screen DVD/CD viewer and wireless headset listening unit. There was also a Library Maze Hunt to find the letters of ‘Literacy’ placed strategically around the library to take participants to the dictionaries and Literacy Collection, questions about new items added to the Literacy Collection, and a fill the speech bubble exercise based on a video clip running on the wide screens in the group study rooms. Thank you to teachers and students who took part in the event and made it a success.

On Thursday 25th August, one of our St George College librarians conducted a storytime poetry session about places where children live in the world for Children’s Book Week. Our librarian provided a map and world globe for the children at Kameruka Childcare Centre and showed them where Australia is situated compared to the rest of the world. The pre-schoolers were enthralled with the session and participated in the storytime activities and later concluded the session by singing one of their favourite songs.

New books in the library

On Monday 15th August, the library paid a visit to Montgomery St campus. The Student Association provided free soup in the tea room and the library had many of their new books and DVDs on display. These new resources in the library were mainly for the fashion, design, graphic and fine arts courses, as well as some new titles for health. Sorry if we missed you, but feel free to visit us in the library to view many new books and DVDs. Also, many new titles are shown and regularly updated on the subject guides which are available via the library website. Just go to the subject guide relevant to your course and scroll down to the “New items in the library” box.

5 for $1

As we have many new DVDs in the library, which we transfer into lockable cases, we now have lots of virtually unused DVD cases for sale in the library. So if you need to organise your DVD/CD shelves at home, or if you need presentation cases for your DVD projects, come on up to the library and pick up 5 cases for $1.00!!

TAFE NSW Library Network eJournal A-Z

July 19th, 2011 Posted by okaras in catalogue, database, Internet resources, library resources, tafecat | Post a Comment »

The TAFE NSW Library Network eJournal A – Z is a hosted service from EBSCO, for which we have a 12 month subscription. It provides an A to Z listing, and the ability to search, for eJournal titles that are available from the databases to which TAFE NSW libraries have a state-wide subscription.  Please note that the non-journal state-wide subscription databases are not included. To view a listing of the databases that are included, see the Databases A-Z tab within the eJournal A-Z product.

The TAFE NSW Library Network eJournal A – Z,  is also accessible from TAFEcat. On the eResources page in TAFEcat, there is now a new heading called “Search for eJournal titles” and below the heading, there is a link to the eJournal A-Z product.

No authentication is required to access and search the TAFE NSW Library Network eJournal A – Z product. You will be asked to authenticate, using the existing TAFEcat eResources authentication pages, at the point where you try to access a journal title.

Copies of past exam papers (i.e. those dated 2005 or later) are available online. The past exam papers have been added to the TAFE NSW Learning Content Management System – Equella which can be accessed by any person with a DET username and password.
To provide easy online access to the past TAFE exam papers in Equella, Library Technology Services have added multiple links within TAFEcat. Links to the past exam papers appear on the Find it Fast! and eResources pages. There is also a link in the new Useful Links box, which appears below the Library Info box on the right of most TAFEcat pages.
Please note, only the last 5 years’ exam papers will be made available. Also note that answers are not provided.
