Podcast – Library visit to The Powerhouse Museum Library
November 26th, 2009 by ssummersmorrow in podcast
Recently I had the pleasure of recording a podcast with one of the Sutherland College library staff about her recent visit to the Powerhouse Museum Library as part of the holiday programme organised by the Sydney Institute library professional development committee. I was particularly interested in what she had to say about the small but dedicated staff and the embracing of new technologies. I too believe that embracing new technologies is important for all library staff. Currently our library job descriptions do not specific the need to be well versed in new technologies – although any job you go for now in a library would ask about your abilities in these areas. In the future who knows, if libraries and librarians are to stay at the forefront of technology and relevance to TAFE staff and students then there might need to be a shift in the roles that we have to perform.
Listen to the podcast and comment on your ideas about where libraries are going in the educational setting and what you think about the idea of TAFE library staff going on visits to other libraries as a professional development activity.
