Memories of the Georges River

October 26th, 2009 by greig.thomson in library resources

You may have seen an article in last Thursday’s Leader (22 October 2009) about a new book, Rivers and Resilience, that was published recently.

The book traces the fascinating history of the Georges River since colonisation, focusing on the Aboriginal inhabitants. The authors, Professor Heather Goodall and Dr Allison Cadzow, grew up in Padstow and Hurstville respectively and spent the past five years researching and interviewing local residents for their book.

Did you know that during the past two hundred years Aboriginal people have maintained communities along the river despite white settlement and  Sydney’s urban expansion?

Whether you have a personal interest in the area or not the book is a good read so why not borrow it from the Library.
