New ways to deliver information to our students and teachers via our website

March 21st, 2010 Posted by ssummersmorrow in Internet resources, Uncategorized, library resources | Post a Comment »

St George College Library has been trying for a number of years to improve and expand the way that we present and provide information to teachers and students of the college. This blog is one of they ways that we have branched out into new technologies, another is our wiki and another is a recent state wide initiative of TAFENSW in providing RSS feeds for items newly added to the library catalgoue in the last month.

We are always keen to receive feedback from you our library users on ways that we have not yet explored to present information to you that you would like to see. If you are not a regular library user we are also keen to find out why you aren’t and for you to let us know how we could change the way that we present information to appeal to you more.

To spark some ideas about mashups that we could add to our website, wiki or blog here is a list:
Book reviews via video, digital stories about a specific part of the collection, online polls and quizzes to see how you feel about specific issues, online reference servcies via IM, SMS reference services, a library DELICIOUS account with links to relevant webpages, what else would you like to see on our pages?

This is the QR for the Library Catalogue

This is the QR for the Library Catalogue

A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code) created by Japanese corporation Denso-Wave in 1994. The “QR” means “Quick Response”, allowing information to be decoded quickly .
QR Codes are common in Japan, where they are currently the most popular type of two dimensional codes. Many Japanese mobile phones can read this code with their camera.
They can be viewed in Australia by using a Telstra 3 G phone or downloading Bee Tagg. At the Telstra site you can make your own QRCode for any URL.
The Library uses QR Codes for the Library Wiki, Blog, Catalogue and Homepage
Here is the library catalogue QR code.
