The session was fantastic – really hands on! It was great to see a few LTMs at the session.  Here are some pictures – and yes taken, edited and uploaded to flikr all from my iphone :) .  In fact, I’m running a session on mobile technologies workshop soon – will keep you all posted, should be a lot of fun.

Hey Hey – Finally did a workshop/show and tell with Floristry and video skills – their goal is to upload videos of the designs covered in practical classes to their moodle each week – eventually building to a complete video library that can be used for flexible/distance delivery.

videoskills powerpoint presentation is here.  I also started putting all the information on a moodle - I will complete it soon (!)

Of course, now that we’re finally underway on week 16 – everything is urgent to be ready to start for next semester!!

A note of thanks to Brian who came over at short notice to provide an overview of Equella and took the team through the process of unzipping files safely.

Finally, for anyone who’s interested  – I have finally managed to successfully download Windows Live Movie Maker to my TAFE laptop – the secret is that you need Directx 9 and to do it off-site!

But now, thanks to Tanya, there is the possibility of using CollabraCam - better buy me an i-Phone!

LTM update 2 Enmore

June 14th, 2011 Posted by tdobble1 in Emore & Petersham, facebook, moodle, social networking | Read Comments(1) or Post a Reply »

The last couple of weeks have been ‘mainly moodling’. With the advent of degree courses & the new Interior design degree course that commenced this semester, Moodle has become the learning technology of choice. This has kept me busy with one on one training for teachers in the Jewellery, Interior & Graphic design departments.
Using all the great resources available from previous & current LTM’s I also put together a moodle 101 handout tutorial – nothing ground breaking but it served my purpose.MOODLE introduction notes
I have also been experimenting with the links PAulis sent out for eXe. I downloaded it & have found it very easy & straightforward to use.
I will be showing my mentees how to use exe, along with quizzes, forums & other activities for the next two weeks.
The other exciting activities I’ve been working are developing a blog and Facebook page with the TVET teachers & students to give TVET at the Design Centre an online presence. We set up individual pages for each course & then the students were taught how to upload images & place in a slideshow (this also saved us alot of time)!
This also gave me the opportunity to create & upload my first youtube video – OK it was just a powerpoint BUT now I have an account – there is no stopping me.
As we also now have Facebook access it gave us the opportunity to add facebook sharing capabilities to our blog. The students thought it was very ‘cool’ that they could share their work online with their peers & get Likes for it. We also were excited to build our likes up past 35 & so get our facebook.comTVETDCE  link.
Using Facebook as a learning tool has created a whole new lingo, & discussions around the water dispenser have been about ‘knowing how to keep the like factor’ analysing & tracking statistics, & social media strategies, who’d have thought facebook would become ‘work’….
I will also be using TVET 2012 course guide launch held at Enmore this week to launch the blog & facebook site as it has given us a great launching pad to get out information quickly & widely accessible.
Using Issuu.com  ( a digital publishing platform, delivering current magazines, catalogs & newspapers) I was also able to upload the current course guide to facebook & blog.
Looking forward to captivate workshop & will then be doing some training in that & ‘presenter’. POV camera is still in my sights but time has just not been available. AND now adobe cs5.5 is out with capabilities to make websites in INDESIGN, when will it stop!
I would also tlike to suss out this app – looks like lots of fun.
COLLABRACAM -’the world’s first multi-camera video production iphone app with live editing  and director to camera communication’

Adobe Presenter 7 Workshop

June 6th, 2011 Posted by glahoud1 in LTM, presenter, workshops | Post a Comment »

We ran an Adobe Presenter 7 workshop last Friday 3rd June, 2011. The session started at 10 and went till 1pm, a delicious morning tea and lunch was provided.

Adobe Presenter works works with PowerPoint,  it introduces a multimedia element. Presentations can be published as PDF , really easy to upload to Equella and wikis.

Masa and Tanya attended (they actually came early and joined in for technology in action – on podcasting). All attendees produced a fantastic presentation piece with audio and video – well done!

Here are some pictures from the session – taken on my iPhone.

LTM Update – Harris St Cluster

June 3rd, 2011 Posted by jstratfold in LTM, TH&SIC, Uncategorized, Using Technologies, Video | Post a Comment »

Discovered the joys of Window Live Movie Maker at the weekend which can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft Education website – at least it can be for my home computer – still struggling to get it onto the TAFE laptop but that seems to be par for the course.  At Gihan’s suggestion I tried another source for the program so I tried  Softonic’s  and cnet with the same results – so if any one can help I’m not sure what to try next!!

Why I am so determined is that I found it a very useful intermediate step to using Adobe Premier Elements – which I found a bit confronting at first as there is so much on the screen.  While MovieMaker is much more intuitive (with less options) – the functionality translates across very well.  I thought it would be a much better place for my mentees to start – I produced a (v silly) scrap of video in less than 30 minutes.

On the topic of useful stuff – for those of us at Ulitmo – let it be known that there is a bit of equipment in the library known as the ‘digital shelf’ (I think that’s what they call it)  - a bank of 10 laptops that can be booked out and taken to any classroom in the library – so need to keep fighting for access to DG52!!  Search as I might though I can find no reference to it on the library website!

So I am hoping to organise a show and tell with the florists for next week – when they have given me a date I’ll post it to f/b and you are all welcome to attend (assist!).

LTM Update @ Randwick

May 31st, 2011 Posted by lapplebaum in Uncategorized | Post a Comment »

I attended the Moodle beginner’s session run by Paulis last week and it’s given me a foot in the door, and I’ve applied for the advanced session in June.
As I am still a novice with the platform, Paulis will be coming to the college next week to deliver another session. I plan to be of more practical help to this group as they begin setting up their own moodle.
Randwick has had several deliveries of the Hitachi Star board recently. http://www.hitachistarboard.com.au/ and I’ll be attending the training.
While not LTM business, I thought the following may be of interest:
TAFE NSW Libraries Showcase-20 May, his showcase of library practices was held by Adobe Connect state-wide.
Presenters representing each Institute spoke on a wide range of subjects including an Information Literacy Program for Trades students; Online Library Guides; Image Library Equella; SAKAI: Libraries Virtual Reality; Digital Promotions; Working Effectively in Isolation and Mobile Website.
At one point the number attending was 168.
This was the view from the Randwick College Library. We hooked up the speakers so we could be present for our customers as well as still attend the showcase. This setup has become very useful .
