We are studying topics related to Health. Listen to this interview with a young Sydneysider, Miguel, talking about Type 1 diabetes.

Tasks:

  • Listen to it once, to get the general gist of the conversation
  • Listen and do the Diabetes worksheet
  • Then listen to it in chunks, stop the file and repeat his sentences (without taking notes) as close as possible to the original
  • Listen and record yourself. Then compare both recordings
  • Listen to the whole conversation and take notes
  • Repeat the conversation from your notes. Record yourself doing it
  • Listen to chunks and translate into your TL (target language)

You can do this at home by yourself or with a classmate. To record yourself, you can use any of the recording applications found in any standard computer or download Audacity  (free) & lame. This will allow you to create mp3 files, which you can download into your ipod or mp3 player to practise anywhere anytime!

Luke: Ultimate Stylist

October 18th, 2009 Posted by MariaRosa Ochoa in ESL podcasts | Post a Comment »

Many people have to leave everything behind and start anew. Listen to my chat with Luke Kara, a hairdresser from Turkey who, not knowing the language, came to Australia and in a very short time had established a very successful and professional hairdressing business.

After you listen to the interview, write an article for your blog. Write about migrants settling into a new country. Difficulties they may encounter and examples, like Luke’s, of people who have achieved their dream or are still working on achieving it.

On August the 14th 2009 5 students from Loftus Event Manmagement worked for the Green Light for Green Skills conference organised by the TAFE NSW Managers Association.

They were registering the conference participants, helping with rooms, liaising with the hotel managers and conference organisers, etc. They had also prepared wonderful decorations created from recycled materials sourced from the Reverse Garbage co-operative in Marrickville. I talk to them about their experience.

Have you ever heard about Event Mangement as a job? Maybe you should look into it as a possible career. Listen to them and see what they think about it.

Health Expo 2009

June 25th, 2009 Posted by MariaRosa Ochoa in esol | Post a Comment »

St George college Student Association organised its annual Health Expo in May. AMEP-B students conducted some interviews which supplement the ones published in this blog.  Unfortunately some of  the recordings weren’t successful, so we can’t hear their interviews with the asthma, breast screening, blood donation and aquatic centre stall holders.

They also created mini radio programs around some topics related to health. like food and sports.

This is a summary of all the podcasts:

Dental Care
