Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)

This course is for people who wish to develop the skills to be able to train and assess in the Australian vocational education and training (VET) sector.

You will learn how to plan, organise and deliver training, plan and implement assessment activities and how to design training programs that meet client needs.

This course is subject to demand.

Date: Tuesday 6th November 2011

The Certificate IV Training and Assessment is becoming a sought after course. Many members of our community are currently trying to gain this qualification or are on a waiting list for future courses. Both Aboriginal Coordinators, Ann Cribb from Sutherland College and Danny Allende from Randwick College are currently running the Cert IV Training and Assessment courses. Both classes are full and a large numbers of people are on waiting list for future courses.

The Ausgrid Pre Apprenticeship Program

Since 2005, EnergyAustralia (now Ausgrid) has worked in partnership every year with TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute to address the significant challenges the organisation faces in meeting targets set in their Indigenous Employment Strategy.

The result has been the development of a unique and innovative training program and human resource strategy with record success in the recruitment and retention of Indigenous apprentices in its organisation.

Each year, since 2005, the EnergyAustralia Pre-Apprenticeship training program has produced increasingly more Indigenous students with the skills, knowledge, experience and confidence to again an apprenticeship as a line worker, cable jointer or electrical mechanic. This program is also characterised by a quality case management model that has led to record retention of participants not only as students in the program (over 80%) but also after they are employed as apprentices (over 90%)

Since 2005, 57 students have passed the EnergyAustralia Apprenticeship Screening test, 39 students have been offered apprenticeships following interview, and 35 Indigenous apprentices are still working at EnergyAustralia. The strong relationship developed between EnergyAustralia and TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute has allowed for improvement of delivery and content each year.

In 2010, the program was expanded to include the Hunter Institute.

Congratulations to Josh and Rob, the first two students that have now completed their apprenticeships, well done!

National Sorry Day Display – Randwick College

National Sorry Day is recognised as a National Day of Commemoration and Rememberance. A day to honour the Stolen Generations and all that they have endured and all that has been lost through the removal of generations of Aboriginal children as a result of the Forced Removal Policies of the past.

The theme for this year’s National Sorry Day continues as, “SORRY. Still Living On Borrowed Time!” in recognition that there is still a lot to be done to achieve justice for the Stolen Generations.
