Visit to Kidsafe and Children’s Hospital

June 18th, 2009 Posted by bcrawford1 in Uncategorized | Post a Comment »

Congratulations on locating Kidsafe House – not an easy place to find. Hope you got lots of useful pamphletts about children and safety. It is astounding that the major cause of death in children under 10 is accidents – and of course many of these would be preventable, hence the public awareness campaigns by Kidsafe.

Hope you all gained ideas and confidence to discuss art works with preschoolers. It was reassuring to know that we do not need to be art critics but to just bring the painting to life with questions and assisting the children develop observation skills. I thought it was a good point that the guide made about the gallery choosing not to have many craft activities, but to focus on observing as the activity with resources such as textured material to assist this process.

copy-of-p50804741We were lucky to have such a lovely day to explore the gardens in autumn sunshine.
Hope you got some ideas about excursions to the gardens for preschoolers, which places to take them and how to organise their day. Also ideas for nature activities in centres and how to use the resources of the Education centre.

Wasn’t it great to see how the museum is now accessible to 3-5′s and employs an Early Childhood Education Coordinator. I was especially interested in the Sue Dockett project with 2 and 3 year olds taking photos with digital cameras and capturing the things that interested them.
What are your thoughts? ( Select “post a comment” at top of relevant post for each visit.)

Visits to Vision Australia March 09

March 21st, 2009 Posted by bcrawford1 in Uncategorized | Read Comments(1) or Post a Reply »

I find that I learn something new each time I visit Vision Australia. Last time I learnt that children who are born blind need to be taught how to hold their head up and maintain normal posture because they are not stimulated by vision to look head. Maintaining normal posture helps their acceptance by others.
What did you learn or what questions would you like to raise?
