Leaders talk laptops

Leaders talk laptops, Teachers talk laptops and Students talk laptops are online video resources that provide advice to school leaders, teachers, and parents about laptops in schools.  Principals explain changes they expect to see, teachers describe challenges and possibilities for learning, and students outline their hopes for learning at home and at school. Further videos will be added to each series as experience grows.

DER and TAFE NSW

The Digital Education Revolution – NSW  which includes laptops, wireless infrastructure, learning resources, curriculum support and professional learning, has a number of spin-off effects for TAFE teachers and students. The Adobe suite of software is available for use both at work (check local roll out) and at home. Students will be arriving in TVET classes with these laptops from 2010 onwards. To support this initiative, CLI is creating a range of resources to assist teachers including Tools4U.

School trial of digital content for mobile devices

During May and June 2009 the Centre for Learning Innovation partnered with scientists from National ICT Australia (NICTA) to trial the mContext application in a high school setting.  mContext is a client-server application that was used to deliver a wide variety of digital learning resources to Apple iPod Touch devices used by Year 11 Ancient History students at Merrylands High School. Laptop wraps for PDHPE

The Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) laptop wraps support the Digital Education Revolution NSW and cover a broad range of stage 5 PDHPE syllabus content including healthy food habits, sexual health and relationships.  The learning tasks are engaging and encourage collaboration and the creation of quality work through the use of laptop software.

Capture!

Capture! is a professional development resource which guides and supports teachers in the production of audio and video. It includes advice from TAFE and school teachers who have “been there and done that”, with examples, information, tips and useful weblinks. More on Capture!

This research spotlight produced by ETIS contains a selection of Australian resources on Aboriginal education and learning technologies.

Awards ceremony for Murder under the Microscope 2009

Students from across Australia celebrated their success in Murder under the Microscope 2009 at the awards ceremony held at NSW State Parliament House. Winning teams received exciting prizes for their eco-sleuthing. More on Murder under the Microscope awards

Science Week
Science Week began on the 15th of August and to celebrate CLI has released Science Talk 2009. You can watch Australian scientists talk about their careers and how they came to choose science.  More Laptop wraps
The Centre for Learning Innovation has developed a series of Laptop wraps that are proving to be very popular with teachers and students as they begin to use laptops in their classrooms. Laptop wraps are topic-based resources and include online and offline activities that exploit the laptop tools and utilise the new suite of Adobe, Microsoft, and other educational software on the laptops. They are available for all KLAs, initially targeting stage 5 syllabus outcomes. Laptop wraps can be found on TaLe

Welding goes wild
Newly released this term is a question bank and quiz application building upon work by Vince Aranda, at SWSI. Containing over 700 questions, the bank randomly generates quizzes allowing students to self-assess their readiness to sit the AS1796 Welding Certification examination. The questions can be deployed to the desktop, to CD, online, or to the Moodle learning management system. More on Welding

Tools4U
Tools4U provide support for the new suite of Adobe, Microsoft, and other educational software. The Centre for Learning Innovation developed Tools4U that include online tutorials, examples of classroom use and step-by-step guides. If you are keen to create a digital portfolio then go to Tools4U Acrobat Pro for further details. Go to TaLe and search for Tools4U or through the Tools+ section of TaLe.

National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2009
CLI is currently producing ten video presentations for National Literacy and Numeracy Week. The resources, funded by the Commonwealth, are for parents and teachers of students in DET, CEC and AIS schools across NSW. More on NLNW

Synopsis

The topic for this week focuses on the new Framework for Head Teacher Development for 2009-12. The framework represents the input of Head Teachers across the Institute and is designed to align Head Teacher development more closely with the Strategic Plan and with Leadership Capability. All Head Teachers across the Institute can participate – whether you are new, aspiring and experienced.
