Adobe/DET Software Licence agreement

DET NSW recently brokered an extensive agreement with Microsoft and Adobe to provide a wide array of their software to staff for the delivery of educational services. In this post will focus on the Adobe agreement, however both agreements include a work at Home Rights licence for all DET employees.
Adobe Licence
The DET NSW Adobe arrangement comprises 2 agreements one for “home use rights” for software purchased by a staff member under the Adobe CLP Agreement and the Adobe Enterprise Agreement which will covers software installed on work computers, classrooms, L4L netbooks etc.
Adobe Enterprise License Agreement
The Adobe enterprise agreement (EA) allows DET owned computers to use Adobe product bundles for both PC and Mac platforms. It’s still in unclear how this will be rolled out by IT regions but given the extensive range of software will no doubt involve a range of strategies possibly including the following
- New desktops and laptops will include a range of the software as part of the SOE or build. This happens now with Microsoft software such as Office 2007.
- Classroom builds will include a selected range of the software
- Based on an assessment of a staff members computer hardware specs and work requirements a range of software could be manually installed or pushed from a centralised survey
The software under the Adobe Enterprise Agreement have been divided up into 3 bundles based on hardware specifications of a given computer/notebook.
for more information see the DET intranet page
Adobe CLP Licence Agreement
Adobe CLP agreement provides a Home Use licence for all DET employees (teaching and administrative, full time and part time). This allows a staff member to DET NSW staff to purchase a software bundle for home use.
You can now order your Adobe suite for home use by following the link on this DET Intranet page
The purchased is done online using you credit card and needs to be delivered to a work address not your home address.
At $93.50 including shipping it represents very good value!
There are a range of conditions surrounding the installation and use of the software including
- it cannot be installed on work computers, this is covered by the enterprise agreement
- software can only be installed on one computer
- Cannot be used for commercial work
- If you no longer work for DET you must uninstall the software
I have ordered the home use Adobe software under the Adobe CLP Agreement and have had a chance to selectively install it on a computer.
The following are on the coloured disks (shown above)and represent the obvious choice for the average teacher wanting to do a range of multimedia tasks on content on video/images and produce elearning resources using captivate and presenter.
This includes
Photoshop Elements 7
Premier elements 7
Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
Presenter 7
Captivate 4
The Master collection shown as the black disks above represent a massive collection of software, and if all installed would represent 14 Gb of space.
It is really suitable for a working multimedia professional and far exceeds the requirements of the average teachers requirements for delivering online.
It contains the following apps
InDesign CS4
Photoshop CS4 Extended
Illustrator CS4
Acrobat 9 Pro
Flash CS4 Professional
Dreamweaver CS4
Fireworks CS4
Contribute CS4
After Effects CS4
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
Soundbooth CS4
Adobe OnLocation CS4
Encore CS4
Adobe Bridge CS4
Adobe Device Central CS4 (offers direct access to Version Cue® and Adobe® Device Central)
Dynamic Link
Version Cue CS4
Adobe Media Player
It is possible to do a custom install of the Master Collection however it’s a tricky process and there are many shared components which are designed to integrate all the apps together.
I was able to selectively install Soundbooth CS4 as this is a good sound editing platform for teachers.
Having said all this, this represents fantastic value for teachers and provides all the tools necessary to capture, edit and share digital content and will greatly assist us in embedding elearning in across the institute.

Thanks Dusty, the links are on the DET NSW Intranet site so only available within the firewall. I have sought to summarise the agreements and conditions for readers. If you are a DET employee click on them while you are at work or logged into the DET Portal.
