Wikispaces Update: Page Level Permissions for Your Wiki

TAFE teachers across the state just can’t help themselves when it comes to locking down wikis so this should be a welcome feature update for them. Wikispaces has finally acceded to a much requested feature by announcing a new feature to their platform today for private label customers (like SI wikispaces) which allows organisers to set viewing and editing permissions on individual pages just like you can for your entire wiki.

To turn on page permissions for a page, go to Manage Wiki, Pages, and then the Actions drop-down next to the page you wish to change. You’ll see an option there to set page permissions for that page. When you turn page permissions on, they will override your wiki permissions. You can also set permissions for a page by going to that page, clicking the drop-down menu on the page tab and then clicking on page permissions.

This could be useful for project wikis where you would like it visible to the whole world but have some pages hidden to and only editable by wiki members. It also means you can have pages worked on by team members until they are ready to be made public.

This is great step for wikispaces and takes the concept of Ning which has posed problems in some faculty areas as we know.! Having permissions on pages was Ning’s forte now students can own pages within a wiki and have rights and permissions. Good news for all wikispace members and administrators :)
