There have been a number of updates to the teaching and learning platforms utilised by teaching sections throughout the Institute.
We are implementing a consistent navigation scheme to all the branded templates across the platforms so it is easier to move between them. Teachers are often using multiple platforms such as moodle and wikispaces and this will make it easier to navigate, it will also highlight to staff the range of platforms we have available to enrich their delivery strategies.
For those who use a SI blog/podcast you will notice a significant change to the back end of the WordPress platform. Last night around midnight we transitioned from WordPress Mu version 1.5 to 2.7. There has been been significant work done to improve the look and layout of the management side, it may take you a while to find your way around however it’s all there and along with some exciting enhancements. We will begin to develop resources on the myLearning wiki to assist you with the more advanced features such as plugins etc Jo Kay has worked very hard testing all the existing blogs to ensure none would be broken in the transition. So far so good, it looks like it is all working fine, however if you encounter any problems or have any question don’t hesitate to contact the WorkForce Development Unit. si.workforcedevelopment[@]tafensw.edu.au phone 9217 3731
Wikispaces has had some template tweaks to include the new cross platform navigation @ the top. Since late 2008 wikispaces has rolled out numerous enhancements and new features. For more information on the new features see the excellent wikispaces help files and check the monthly update announcements.
The myLearning wiki, based on MediaWiki platform has undergone a template tweak or two thanks to Jo Kay and looks a whole lot cleaner. Over the semester we will add a whole lot more widget functionality to support tools such as google docs etc. We have also implemented a useful bread crumb menu which displays the last 5 pages visited at the top of each page.
If you have not had a good look through myLearning, it’s a great time to have a look around at the plethora of resources which have emerged out of collaboration amongst staff @ SI. Create a profile and participate in your learning today, it’s our wiki so feel free to contribute.
The technical issues which plauged Adobe Connect last year have been resolved and the platform has been updated to version 7 pro with service pack 2. Not a huge difference from the users point of view with most of the updates devoted to bug fixes.
If your not familiar with the diverse range of eLearning tools avaible to staff, contact WorkForce Development or keep an eye on the calendar of events on SydNet for a workshop on a technology of interest to your section.
